Support Your Immunity: Keep Up Your Exercise

As you spend more time at home, remember the importance of continuing with your exercise routine to keep your immune system strong. Here are some ideas for you so you don’t become sedentary. Keeping exercise on your schedule is key!

  • If you take classes at a fitness studio, find out what steps they’re taking to prevent the spread of illness. They should increase their cleaning, have sanitizer readily available, and reduce the size of classes to keep a safe distance from others. Some studios are also offering streaming video so you can do the class in the comfort of your home.

  • If you use a personal trainer in a gym, find out what times of day are less crowded. Usually the middle of the day is quieter. If you go during prime hours, make sure you’re at a safe distance from others, or request that you be in an area near an open door or outdoors for more ventilation.

  • Wherever you workout, clean all equipment before and after use. Wash your hands before and after your workout, and don’t touch your face. Use a towel when lying on equipment and to wipe your perspiration.

  • Exercise in an outdoor park, take a hike or go for a bike ride. If you do it with friends, stay at a safe distance.

  • If you must stay at home, ask your personal trainer to send you your exercises with pictures or videos. If you use an exercise app or program from the internet, make sure it’s appropriate for your body and your goals. There’s lots of content out there, but it can be confusing to sort out.
