Don’t Wait Until the New Year to Get in Shape

This time of year, I have clients who decide to do one of three things: 1) ramp up their exercise, 2) stay the course on their plan, or 3) hold off until the new year to start getting fit. Can you guess which choices make it easier to reach your goals? Seems like a simple answer, but it’s easy to pull back or give up with the holiday parties, time for shopping, and prepping to have guests over. Between October and January, I usually put on a couple pounds and start getting some aches and pains if I don’t stay on track. Here are some tips to stay the course:

  1. Keep exercise on your calendar. Work your shopping and prepping around it. I have trouble motivating to work out on my own, so I sign up for classes that have cancellation fees to deter me from backing out. As your personal trainer, I will be your accountability partner!

  2. Sign up now for fitness package deals and discounted memberships in the new year. Studios and clubs are working to get their numbers up, so you’ll find lots of options out there. I’m offering deals for new and current clients, where you can save 15-50%!

  3. Get a friend to join you. You can even give them a gift of fitness!

  4. If you can’t stick to your regular routine, stay active. Park your car in the far end of the lot, and take the long way as you walk from store to store. Plan lots of walking for your holiday sightseeing.

  5. Squeeze in some exercises at home. Take note of what you do in your class or with your trainer, and spend at least 15 minutes a day doing a few sets of a variety of exercises, mixing it up every time. See my Youtube channel for ideas.
